Noel Appleby

Noel Appleby was a New Zealand actor born on April 5, 1933. He began his acting career in commercials, notably gaining recognition in an 80s Winstone commercial where he was seen pushing a wheelbarrow. His film career included a bit part in "Beyond Reasonable Doubt" before he was cast in Vincent Ward's acclaimed fantasy film "The Navigator: A Medieval Odyssey" (1988), where he played Ulf, one of the time-travelers, earning him a Best Supporting Actor award at the 1989 New Zealand Film and TV Awards. Appleby also appeared in "Moonrise" (hunting vampires) and "Old Bastards" (as a taxi-driver). He is widely known for his role as Everard Proudfoot (referred to as Odo Proudfoot in the books) in Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" (2001) and "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" (2003). Noel Appleby passed away on May 17, 2007, in New Zealand.
