Oliver Ford Davies

Oliver Ford Davies is a highly respected English actor, writer, and theater historian. Born on August 12, 1939, in Ealing, London, he initially pursued a career in academia, earning a doctorate in history from Oxford University and working as a history lecturer at the University of Edinburgh. However, his passion for acting, which he discovered as a child, led him to leave his academic career in 1967 to pursue acting professionally. He is a veteran of the stage, known for his extensive and acclaimed work with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre. He won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a New Play for his role in Racing Demon in 1990. To a broader audience, he is perhaps best known for his roles as Sio Bibble in the Star Wars prequel trilogy and as Maester Cressen in the HBO series Game of Thrones. His other film and television credits include Johnny English, Sense and Sensibility, and the critically acclaimed 2022 film Triangle of Sadness, where he played the character of Winston.
