Oona Castilla Chaplin is a Spanish-Swiss-British actress and activist. Born on June 4, 1986, in Madrid, Spain, she is a member of the famous Chaplin family; she is the daughter of actress Geraldine Chaplin, the granddaughter of legendary filmmaker Charlie Chaplin, and the great-granddaughter of playwright Eugene O'Neill. Growing up, Chaplin traveled extensively due to her mother's film career and developed a passion for the arts, studying dance and later, drama at Gordonstoun School in Scotland before graduating from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London in 2007.Chaplin has built a successful and diverse career in film and television. She is widely recognized for her television roles as Talisa Maegyr in HBO's Game of Thrones, Kitty Trevelyan in the BBC drama The Crimson Field, and Zilpha Geary in the historical series Taboo. She also appeared in the "White Christmas" episode of Black Mirror and the BBC series Sherlock.In film, Chaplin has appeared in both British and Spanish productions, and in 2017, she was cast in a prominent role in James Cameron's Avatar sequels. She is set to play a new character, Varang, a strong and vibrant central character, in Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025). Beyond her acting, Chaplin is an active humanitarian, serving as a trustee for The Boa Foundation, an organization that works with indigenous communities to protect biodiversity and regenerate ecosystems.
