Osric Chau (Chinese: 周逸之) is a Canadian actor, producer, and martial artist, best known for his dynamic roles in popular television series and his outspoken advocacy for Asian representation in media. Born in Vancouver to a father from Hong Kong and a mother from Malaysia, Chau spent years training in martial arts, including Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Wushu, and was a member of the Canadian National Wushu Team, originally intending to pursue a career as a stunt performer. His shift to acting was sparked by a major role in the 2008 TV film Kung Fu Killer. He gained international recognition through a supporting role in the disaster film 2012 (2009), whose success in China led him to work in Chinese-language films, including the remake of What Women Want (2010). Chau's most recognized role is the beloved character Kevin Tran, the young prophet of the Lord, in the long-running CW series Supernatural (2012–2019), which earned him a dedicated global fanbase. He later starred as Vogel, a member of the Rowdy 3, in the BBC America series Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (2016–2017) and made history as the first Asian American superhero in the Arrowverse as Ryan Choi/The Atom in several crossover events, including Crisis on Infinite Earths (2019). Beyond acting, Chau has become active as a producer, notably on films like Empty by Design (2019) and the Shudder Original Superhost (2021). He is a passionate advocate against stereotyping and for diversity, using his platform to push for more authentic and complex roles for Asian actors in Hollywood.
