Pablo Larraín Matte (born August 19, 1976) is a highly prominent Chilean filmmaker, known for his work as a director, producer, and screenwriter. He studied Audiovisual Communication at UNIACC University in Santiago and, in 2003, co-founded the production company Fábula with his brother, Juan de Dios Larraín. His early feature films often explore the difficult history of Chile, particularly the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet, forming an unofficial trilogy with Tony Manero (2008), Post Mortem (2010), and the Academy Award-nominated No (2012). Larraín has since gained international acclaim for his distinctive approach to biographical films focusing on iconic, troubled female figures, including his English-language debut Jackie (2016) starring Natalie Portman, Spencer (2021) with Kristen Stewart, and Maria (2024) starring Angelina Jolie. His other notable directorial works include Fuga (2006), the Grand Jury Prize-winning El Club (2015), Neruda (2016), Ema (2019), and the satirical vampire film El Conde (2023).
