Paterson Joseph is a distinguished British actor, author, and cultural advocate, celebrated for his versatile roles in television, film, and theatre. Born on June 22, 1964, in Willesden, London, he is best known for his portrayal of Alan Johnson in the acclaimed sitcom Peep Show (2003–2015) and as the villainous Arthur Slugworth in the 2023 film Wonka. Joseph's extensive career spans over three decades, encompassing notable performances in The Beach (2000), Æon Flux (2005), The Leftovers (2014–2015), and Timeless (2016–2018). A graduate of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), Joseph has performed with prestigious companies such as the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre. His stage credits include leading roles in Othello, Julius Caesar, The Emperor Jones, and Sancho: An Act of Remembrance, a one-man show based on the life of Ignatius Sancho, Britain's first Black voter.
