Paul Tylak
Paul Tylak is an Irish writer, actor, and comedian. Born to an Irish mother and a Sri Lankan father, he spent his childhood between Ireland and England, attending the now-closed De Burgh School in Tadworth, Surrey. Since 2002, he has resided in Tallaght, Ireland, and has two children, Reuben and Calvin.Tylak's career in television began in the late 1980s on the RTÉ show Nighthawks. He went on to contribute to the writing and performance of various sketch comedy series, including RTÉ's Stew (2004-2005), which garnered an Irish Film and Television Award and a Celtic Film & Television Festival award for Best Entertainment Series, and This Is Ireland for the BBC (2004). He also wrote and co-starred in BBC Radio shows like The Nualas and The O'Show.As an actor, Tylak has appeared in numerous Irish and British productions. Early in his career, he featured with Joe Rooney in the TV3 comedy travel series Messrs Tylak and Rooney (1997). He also played Ashti, a Kurdish refugee, in the RTÉ soap opera Fair City (2001), a role he embraced as an opportunity to challenge racial prejudices. His film credits include small parts in In the Name of the Father and Braveheart, and more recently, a supporting role in Lance Daly's Halal Daddy. He has also been a prolific voice actor, lending his voice to animated productions such as Skunk Fu! (2007-08), Chloe's Closet (2009-2013), Planet Cosmo (2013), and Zig and Zag (2016), as well as films like The Secret of Kells (2009), All Creatures Big and Small (2015), and Luis and the Aliens (2018).Tylak is also a stand-up comedian and a core member of the Dublin Comedy Improv Group, touring the international comedy festival circuit and performing with notable figures from shows like The Simpsons and Saturday Night Live. His recent acting work includes roles in TV series such as Kin (2021-2023), Harry Wild (2022-2025), Bad Sisters (2022-2024), Bodkin (2024), The Diplomat (2024), and the upcoming film Hallow Road (2025).
