Paz Bascuñan

Born on June 2, 1975, in Santiago, Chile, Paz Bascuñán is a highly celebrated Chilean actress and a member of a prominent political family. She is the granddaughter of Patricio Aylwin, the first democratically elected president of Chile following the Pinochet dictatorship, and the daughter of Mariana Aylwin, a former Minister of Education. Bascuñán received her formal training at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, making her television debut in 1999 in the soap opera Cerro Alegre. She quickly became a staple of Chilean television, starring in numerous popular telenovelas such as Puertas Adentro, Los Pincheira, and Cómplices. However, she achieved massive national fame as the lead character Cristina Moreno in the romantic comedy series Soltera otra vez (2012–2018), a role that solidified her status as one of Chile’s most beloved comedic actresses. In the film world, Bascuñán has enjoyed a long and fruitful collaboration with Chilean director Nicolás López, starring in box-office hits like Qué pena tu vida (2010), Sin Filtro (2016), and No estoy loca (2018). Her performance in Sin Filtro was particularly significant, as the film became one of the highest-grossing Chilean movies of all time. She is also known to international audiences through her work with Eli Roth; she appeared in the disaster film Aftershock (2012) and provided the voice for the character Lucía in the cannibal horror film The Green Inferno (2013). Beyond her acting, she is married to Spanish film producer Miguel Asensio, with whom she has two children, and she remains a central figure in the Latin American entertainment industry through recent projects like the S.O.S. Mamis franchise.
