Peter Cullen
Peter Cullen is a Canadian voice actor born on July 28, 1941, in Montreal, Quebec. He is best known for voicing Optimus Prime in the Transformers franchise, a role he originated in the 1980s animated series and has reprised in every live-action film since 2007, as well as in numerous TV shows and video games . Cullen's deep, commanding voice was inspired by his older brother, Larry Cullen, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served in Vietnam. Peter has described Larry as his hero and credits his brother's calm, dignified leadership style as the foundation for Optimus Prime's voice . In addition to Optimus Prime, Cullen has voiced Eeyore in Disney’s Winnie the Pooh franchise, Monterey Jack in Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, and the Predator in the 1987 film Predator . In recognition of his contributions to the entertainment industry, Cullen was inducted into the Transformers Hall of Fame in 2010 and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 2023 . Despite his extensive work, Cullen has expressed disappointment over being replaced in certain Transformers projects due to non-union casting decisions, such as in the animated series Transformers: Cyberverse .
