Peter McDonald is an Irish actor and director born on January 28, 1972, in Dublin, Ireland. He grew up in Mount Merrion and was educated at St. Michael's College, Dublin. He graduated from University College Dublin in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Fine Arts in English. During his time at university, McDonald was active in the Drama Society and was a member of the Fly by Night Theatre Company. McDonald's acting career began in 1997 with his role as Git Hynes in the Irish comedy I Went Down, co-starring with Brendan Gleeson. He has since appeared in numerous films, including Felicia's Journey (1999), Saltwater (2000), The Damned United (2009), England Is Mine (2017), and The Batman (2022), where he portrayed William Kenzie. In addition to his acting work, McDonald is an accomplished writer and director. He wrote and directed the short film Pentecost (2011), which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film. He also co-wrote and starred in The Stag (2013), a comedy that received critical acclaim. McDonald has also had a successful career in theatre, performing in productions such as The Weir, The Caretaker, Glengarry Glen Ross, and The Lieutenant of Inishmore. His stage work has earned him recognition as a prolific London stage actor.
