Rolf Peter Ingvar Storm, known professionally as Peter Stormare, was born on August 27, 1953, in Kumla, Sweden. His family later moved to Arbrå. He pursued his passion for acting at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm. It was during his time there that he decided to change his surname to Stormare to avoid confusion with another student. Before settling on his current stage name, he briefly considered "Retep Mrots," which is "Peter Storm" spelled backward. "Stormare" itself translates to "stormer" in Swedish.Stormare's acting career began at the Royal National Theatre of Sweden, where he dedicated eleven years to stage performances. In 1990, he took on the role of Associate Artistic Director at the Tokyo Globe Theatre, where he directed numerous Shakespearean plays, including "Hamlet." In 1993, he moved to New York, expanding his career to English-language productions.
