Phyllis Logan
Phyllis Logan (born 11 January 1956, Paisley, Scotland) is a celebrated Scottish actress whose career spans stage, film, and television. After training at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, she won critical acclaim and the prestigious BAFTA Most Promising Newcomer award for her leading role in Another Time, Another Place (1983) . She became a household name as Lady Jane Felsham in Lovejoy (1986–1993), before gaining international recognition as the devoted housekeeper Mrs Hughes in Downton Abbey (2010–2015). Her portrayal carried through to the franchise's films in 2019, 2022, and she will reprise the role in The Grand Finale (2025). On screen, Logan is admired for her authentic, grounded performances—her Mrs Hughes was even named the best Downton character in a RadioTimes poll. Beyond Downton, she’s continued to shine in projects like Secrets & Lies, The Good Karma Hospital, Girlfriends, Guilt, and the upcoming film Surprised by Oxford. Off-screen, Phyllis leads a rich personal life: she married fellow actor Kevin McNally in 2011, they have a son named David, and she balances her acting with philanthropic work—especially with Dementia UK and Hearts & Minds, supporting therapeutic arts for those with dementia. Now in her late 60s, Logan continues to push boundaries—recently starring in Guilt and Shetland—and says she hopes to keep working well into her 80s, inspired by contemporaries like Maggie Smith and Judi Dench. With her return as Mrs Hughes in The Grand Finale, she remains a beloved and enduring presence in British drama.
