Prosenjit Chatterjee
Prosenjit Chatterjee, often affectionately called "Bumba Da," is an Indian actor and producer who is one of the most prominent and enduring figures in modern Bengali cinema. Born on September 30, 1962, to veteran actor Biswajit Chatterjee, he began his career as a child artist in the 1968 film Chotto Jigyasa.His breakthrough as a lead actor came in the highly successful romantic drama Amar Sangi (1987). Throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, he became a superstar, starring in numerous commercial hits. In the 2000s, he successfully transitioned to more critically acclaimed roles, collaborating with acclaimed directors like Rituparno Ghosh in films like Chokher Bali (2003) and Dosar (2006). His performance in Dosar earned him a National Film Award – Special Jury Award.Prosenjit has showcased his versatility by playing a wide range of characters, from historical figures to contemporary heroes. Some of his most celebrated roles include his portrayal of Lalon in Moner Manush (2010), the lead in Autograph (2010), and a disgraced police officer in Baishe Srabon (2011). He has also worked in Hindi cinema, notably with a comeback in the 2012 film Shanghai.Beyond acting, Prosenjit is also a producer, with his production company creating critically acclaimed works, including the National Film Award-winning film Shankhachil (2016).
