R. Madhavan is an acclaimed Indian actor, director, and producer known for his versatile roles in Tamil and Hindi cinema. Born on June 1, 1970, in Jamshedpur, Bihar (now in Jharkhand), he initially pursued a career in electronics engineering before venturing into acting. Madhavan's breakthrough came with the Tamil film Alaipayuthey (2000), directed by Mani Ratnam, which established him as a leading actor in the industry. He made his Hindi film debut with Rehnaa Hai Tere Dil Mein (2001), a romantic drama that became a cult classic. Over the years, Madhavan has delivered memorable performances in films like Rang De Basanti (2006), Guru (2007), 3 Idiots (2009), Tanu Weds Manu (2011), and its sequel Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015). His portrayal of a boxing coach in Irudhi Suttru (2016) earned him critical acclaim and several awards. In 2022, he made his directorial debut with Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, a biographical film about ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan, which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film.
