She is the eldest daughter of actress Leslie Landon and the granddaughter of the late actor Michael Landon, known for his roles in Little House on the Prairie and Highway to Heaven . Matthews developed an interest in acting at a young age, inspired by Shirley Temple movies. She pursued her passion by taking tap and voice lessons and joined a local theater program at the age of 10. She later studied acting at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts . Her acting career began with her film debut in Happy Death Day (2017), where she portrayed Danielle Bouseman. She reprised this role in the sequel, Happy Death Day 2U (2019). In the same year, Matthews voiced the character Honeymaren in Disney's Frozen II . Matthews has also appeared in television series such as Batwoman, where she played the villainous character Magpie, and Looking for Alaska, portraying Fiona .
