Rami Malek, born Rami Said Malek on May 12, 1981, is an American actor celebrated for his intense and immersive portrayals of complex characters. Born in Torrance, California, to Egyptian immigrant parents, he developed an early interest in acting, which he pursued by studying theater at the University of Evansville. Malek gained initial recognition through supporting roles in television series like Gilmore Girls and The War at Home, and in the Night at the Museum film trilogy. His breakthrough came with his critically acclaimed performance as the socially anxious and brilliant hacker Elliot Alderson in the USA Network television series Mr. Robot (2015–2019), for which he won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. He achieved further international stardom and numerous accolades, including an Academy Award for Best Actor, for his transformative portrayal of Queen's lead singer Freddie Mercury in the 2018 biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. Malek has continued to showcase his versatility in films such as No Time to Die, where he played the main antagonist, and in Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer. In the upcoming thriller The Amateur (2025), he takes on the lead role of Charlie Heller.
