Raphael Sbarge
Raphael Sbarge is an American actor, director, producer, and podcaster with over five decades of experience in the entertainment industry. Born on February 12, 1964, in New York City, he is the son of Broadway costume designer Jeanne Button and artist-filmmaker Stephen Sbarge. Sbarge began his acting career at age 4½ on Sesame Street and made his Broadway debut at 16 in The Curse of An Aching Heart opposite Faye Dunaway. He later appeared in productions such as Ah, Wilderness and Twilight of the Golds . In film, Sbarge's notable roles include Risky Business (1983), Vision Quest (1985), Independence Day (1996), Pearl Harbor (2001), and The Exorcist: Believer (2023) . On television, he is recognized for his portrayal of Dr. Archie Hopper/Jiminy Cricket on ABC's Once Upon a Time, as well as roles in Murder in the First, The Guardian, Dexter, 24, Prison Break, and Longmire . Sbarge has also lent his voice to video games such as Mass Effect and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Transitioning behind the camera, Sbarge has directed and produced several acclaimed projects. His documentary 10 Days in Watts won an Emmy Award and focused on community efforts in Watts, California. His film Only in Theaters (2022), about the Laemmle Theatres, received critical praise and a 97% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. He also directed the narrative film The Bird Who Could Fly (2017), which won Best Director at multiple Asian film festivals . In 2024, Sbarge co-hosted the podcast Inside the Arthouse with Greg Laemmle, interviewing filmmakers and actors about their films opening in theaters . He is married to artist/writer Jenna DeAngeles, and they have two children, Willow and Django.
