Ravi Mohan (born September 10, 1980), widely known by his stage name Jayam Ravi, is a prominent Indian actor and producer in Tamil cinema. The son of veteran film editor A. Mohan, he was born in Tirumangalam, Madurai, and raised in a family deeply rooted in the industry. He began his journey as a child artist in his father's productions and later worked as an assistant director under Suresh Krishna for Aalavandhan (2001). His career as a lead actor exploded with his debut in Jayam (2003), directed by his brother Mohan Raja; the film's massive success was so impactful that the title became a permanent prefix to his stage name for over two decades. Known for his versatility, he has starred in a wide array of hits, including M. Kumaran Son of Mahalakshmi, Santhosh Subramaniam, the ground-breaking spy thriller Thani Oruvan (2015), and the historical epic Ponniyin Selvan (2022–2023), where he portrayed the titular Raja Raja Chola I. In a significant professional shift on January 13, 2025, the actor announced that he was dropping his moniker to be known officially by his birth name, Ravi Mohan. This rebranding coincided with the launch of his own production house, Ravi Mohan Studios, and a charitable organization called the Ravi Mohan Fans Foundation. In his personal life, Ravi was married to Aarthi from 2009 until their high-profile separation and divorce filing in late 2024; they have two sons, Aarav and Ayaan. As of late 2025, he is at the center of several major projects, including the highly anticipated period political drama Parasakthi (2026), where he is rumored to play a powerful antagonist. He is also making his directorial debut with a film titled An Ordinary Man (starring Yogi Babu) and has the long-awaited sequel Thani Oruvan 2 in his pipeline.
