Rhona Mitra is a British actress, model, and singer, born on August 9, 1976, in Paddington, London, England. She is the daughter of Anthony Mitra, a cosmetic surgeon of Bengali Indian and English descent, and Nora Downey, who is Irish. Mitra has an older brother, Jason Wath Mitra, and a younger brother, Guyan Mitra. Her parents divorced when she was eight, leading her to attend boarding schools, including Roedean, where she claims to have been expelled from both institutions. Mitra began her career as the live-action model for Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider video game series from 1997 to 1998, before Angelina Jolie took on the role in the films. She made her film debut in 1997 in the children's fantasy adventure A Kid in Aladdin's Palace, portraying Sheherazade. Her notable television roles include Holly Marie Begins in the sixth season of Party of Five (1999–2000), Tara Wilson in The Practice (2003–2004), and its spin-off Boston Legal (2004–2005), and Detective Kit McGraw in the third season of Nip/Tuck (2005). She also portrayed Major Rachel Dalton in the second and third seasons of Strike Back (2012–2013) and Rachel Scott in the first two seasons of The Last Ship (2014–2015). In film, Mitra starred as Sonja in Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009), Major Eden Sinclair in Doomsday (2008), and appeared in Sweet Home Alabama (2002), Stuck on You (2003), and The Life of David Gale (2003). She also featured in the Netflix film Game Over, Man! (2018) and portrayed Mercy Graves in the CW series Supergirl (2018). Beyond acting, Mitra is a singer and released two albums, Come Alive (1998) and Female Icon (1999), both produced by Dave Stewart. She has also been involved in animal rescue and rehabilitation efforts. In 2023, her life rescuing horses in Uruguay was featured on the Channel 5 TV show Ben Fogle: New Lives in the Wild.. As of 2025, Mitra stars in the lead role of the science-fiction film The Experiment, alongside Famke Janssen and Stefanie Martini, and plays the female lead opposite Joel Kinnaman in the four-hour miniseries Debriefing the President on TNT. Mitra has been romantically linked to actors Matt Damon and John Mayer, but she is currently single. She has no children.
