Ritu Arya is a British actress and musician, born on September 17, 1988, in Guildford, England, to parents of Indian descent who work in real estate. She grew up with two brothers, Romi and Rahul, and was inspired to pursue acting after seeing South Asian representation in the British comedy Goodness Gracious Me. Despite her passion for the arts, she first completed a BSc in Astrophysics at the University of Southampton, where she was active in the university's theatre group and comedy society. Following her graduation, she pursued formal acting training at the Oxford School of Drama. Arya's professional career began with early roles in short films and a guest appearance in Sherlock (2014). She gained initial recognition for her portrayal of Dr. Megan Sharma in the British soap opera Doctors (2013–2017), a role that earned her a British Soap Award nomination for Best Newcomer in 2017. She further established herself with recurring roles in the sci-fi series Humans (2016–2018), the psychological thriller Sticks and Stones (2019), and the festive film Last Christmas (2019). Her breakout international success came in 2020 when she joined the main cast of the hit Netflix series The Umbrella Academy as the "wild-card" character Lila Pitts. Since her breakout, Arya has appeared in high-profile projects including the Netflix action-comedy Red Notice (2021) alongside Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds, and the critically acclaimed film Polite Society (2023). She also portrayed "Journalist Barbie" in Greta Gerwig’s blockbuster Barbie (2023) and took on a lead role as MI6 operative Zara Taylor in the action series Paris Has Fallen (2024). Beyond acting, she is a talented drummer and was a member of the indie band KIN, with whom she released singles like "Sharing Light" before departing the group in late 2022.
