Robert Emms

Robert Emms (born Robert James MacPherson on May 20, 1986, in Horley, Surrey) is a highly versatile British film, stage, and television actor known for his compelling performances in dramatic and historical roles. An alumnus of both the BRIT School and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), Emms began his professional career in theatre, famously playing the lead role of Albert Narracott in the National Theatre's acclaimed 2009 production of War Horse. His stage work led directly to his casting in Steven Spielberg's 2011 film adaptation of War Horse as David Lyons. Emms has since built an impressive filmography, featuring in major films like Kick-Ass 2 (2013), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), and portraying the tennis player Vitas Gerulaitis in Borg vs McEnroe (2017). His television career includes numerous critically praised roles, such as the main role of Pythagoras in the BBC series Atlantis (2013–2015), the tormented Daryl Garrs in Sally Wainwright’s Happy Valley (Series 2), and a significant role as Leonid Toptunov in the multiple Emmy-winning HBO miniseries Chernobyl (2019). More recently, he was recognized for playing the recurring role of Supervisor Lonni Jung in the Star Wars series Andor (2022). Emms is set to appear as Robert Horner in the 2025 historical comedy-drama film The Choral, continuing his work in high-profile British productions.
