Ronny Chieng is a Malaysian-born comedian and actor renowned for his sharp wit, cultural commentary, and dynamic performances across stand-up, television, and film. Born in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, Chieng was raised in Singapore and New Hampshire, USA. He earned dual degrees in Law and Commerce from the University of Melbourne in Australia, graduating in 2009. Initially pursuing a legal career, he transitioned into comedy in 2009, performing stand-up in Melbourne. His breakout came in 2012 at the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal, leading to sold-out tours in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, India, Canada, and London . Chieng gained international recognition as a correspondent on The Daily Show in 2015. He co-created and starred in the sitcom Ronny Chieng: International Student, which aired on ABC Australia and Comedy Central.
