Roque Baños

Roque Baños López is a Spanish music composer, born in Jumilla, Murcia, Spain, on May 1, 1968. He was involved in music his whole life, with his father being a saxophonist, and he himself completed a basic saxophone degree at the Upper Music Conservatory of Murcia. He continued his studies at the Real Conservatorio Superior in Madrid, obtaining professional degrees in various musical disciplines, including composition and conducting. In 1993, he received a grant to study at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA, where he specialized in composition for film scores and jazz, graduating summa cum laude and winning the Robert Share Award. Baños has since had a prolific career scoring both Spanish and English-language films, with his music often noted for its strong jazz influence. He has worked on over 70 films, with notable international projects including Sexy Beast (2000), The Machinist (2004), Evil Dead (2013), In the Heart of the Sea (2015), Don't Breathe (2016), and The Commuter (2018). Baños has received numerous accolades for his work, including the Spanish Goya Award for Best Original Score in 2008 for Las 13 rosas and again in 2009 for The Oxford Murders.
