Rosy McEwen

Rosy McEwen is a British actress who won a British Independent Film Award for her performance in the 2022 film Blue Jean. McEwen attended an all-girls Catholic school in London and, at age 12, auditioned for the film Atonement, making it to the final two for a role that eventually went to Saoirse Ronan. She studied History of Art at the University of Leeds and then trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. She is known for her work in both theater and on screen, including roles in the HBO series The Alienist (2020), the Channel 4 drama Close to Me (2021), and the 2022 sci-fi film Vesper. Her film credits also include Apartment 7A (2024), Harvest (2024), and Rabbit Trap (2025), in which she plays Daphne Davenport. For her stage work, she has appeared in productions with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal National Theatre, where she was acclaimed for her portrayal of Desdemona in Othello. McEwen was born with the surname Byrne but took her mother's maiden name, McEwen, to avoid confusion with the actress Rose Byrne.
