Rowan Joffé
Rowan Marc Joffé is a multi-award-winning British screenwriter and director, recognized for his compelling and critically acclaimed work in both film and television. Born in 1973, he is the son of celebrated director Roland Joffé and actress Jane Lapotaire.Joffé began his career as a screenwriter, gaining early recognition with his first two screenwriting projects, Last Resort (2000) and Gas Attack (2001), both of which won the Best New British Feature Award at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. He went on to write the screenplay for the commercially successful zombie sequel 28 Weeks Later (2007) and the George Clooney-led thriller The American (2010).He is also an accomplished director, with his TV directorial debut, Secret Life (2007), being highly praised by critics. He won the BAFTA Award for Best Single Drama for his 2008 television film The Shooting of Thomas Hurndall. Joffé made his feature film directing debut with his own adaptation of Graham Greene's classic novel, Brighton Rock (2010), which he also wrote. He later wrote and directed the psychological thriller Before I Go to Sleep (2014), starring Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth. Joffé is also the creator, writer, and executive producer of the successful television series Tin Star (2017–2020), which stars Tim Roth. More recently, he wrote the screenplay for Edward Berger's 2025 film The Ballad of a Small Player, starring Colin Farrell.
