Ryan James Eggold (born August 10, 1984) is an American actor, writer, director, and musician, widely recognized for his leading roles in several prominent television series. Born in Lakewood, California, he graduated from the University of Southern California's theater arts department in 2006. Eggold began his career with appearances on shows like Veronica Mars and Brothers & Sisters before landing his first series regular role as English teacher Ryan Matthews in the CW spin-off, 90210 (2008–2011). He gained significant further recognition for his five-year tenure as the mysterious and complex operative Tom Keen on the NBC drama The Blacklist (2013–2018), a role he reprised as the lead in the spin-off series The Blacklist: Redemption (2017). From 2018 to 2023, he starred as the dedicated and optimistic medical director Dr. Max Goodwin on the popular medical drama New Amsterdam. On the film side, he has appeared in notable projects such as Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman (2018) and Eliza Hittman's Never Rarely Sometimes Always (2020), and he is set to star in the 2025 film My Secret Santa alongside Alexandra Breckenridge.
