Ryoo Seung-bum
Ryoo Seung-bum is a prominent South Korean actor, born on August 9, 1980, in Asan, South Chungcheong Province. He is the younger brother of renowned film director Ryoo Seung-wan. The actor had a difficult time finding motivation for studying and dropped out of Daedong Technical High School, later stating that acting provided an important focus for his life. His career began in 1999, and his acting debut came in his older brother's film, Die Bad (2000), which earned him the Best New Actor award at the Grand Bell Awards. He went on to star in numerous successful films, including Arahan (2004), Crying Fist (2005), and secured the Baeksang Arts Award for Best Leading Actor for his role in Bloody Tie (2006). He is known for his versatile style, often praised for his "manic energy" and naturalistic, realistic portrayals, expanding his repertoire beyond early comedy roles. Other notable works include The Unjust (2010), The Berlin File (2013), and the television series Moving (2023). In his personal life, he married a Slovakian painter, who is ten years younger, in 2020, and they welcomed a daughter that same year. He currently lives in France and Slovakia, going back and forth with his family, and has expressed that becoming a father has greatly changed his life and expanded his perspective as an actor and person. Beyond acting, he has also been active as a club DJ under the name "DJ Ryoo."
