Sacha Baron Cohen

Sacha Noam Baron Cohen, born on October 13, 1971, in London, is an English actor, comedian, writer, and producer renowned for his provocative, cringe-worthy, and often controversial brand of comedy, which uses fictional satirical characters to expose prejudice and hypocrisy in society. Educated at Christ's College, Cambridge, where he studied history and was a member of the Footlights comedy club, he developed a talent for improvisation and creating elaborate personas. His breakthrough came in the late 1990s on British television with the creation of Ali G, a "wannabe" hip-hop journalist, which led to Da Ali G Show and the feature film Ali G Indahouse (2002). Baron Cohen achieved global fame with the movie Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2006), where he portrayed the naive, racist, and sexist Kazakh journalist, Borat Sagdiyev. The film, a mockumentary involving unscripted interactions with unsuspecting Americans, earned him a Golden Globe for Best Actor and an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. He followed this success with the mockumentary Brüno (2009), featuring his flamboyant gay Austrian fashion reporter character, and the scripted comedy The Dictator (2012), playing Admiral General Aladeen. His other notable roles include voicing King Julien XIII the lemur in the Madagascar film series, a dramatic turn as Thénardier in the film adaptation of Les Misérables (2012), and an acclaimed performance as political activist Abbie Hoffman in The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020), which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He is married to actress Isla Fisher, and his work, which also includes the 2018 Showtime series Who Is America?, continues to be a blend of high-stakes comedic pranks and serious dramatic roles.
