Saiju Kurup

Saiju Govinda Kurup is an established Indian actor who works primarily in Malayalam cinema, having appeared in over 100 films throughout his career. Born on March 12, 1979, in Cherthala, Alappuzha, Kerala, he initially pursued a corporate career as a sales manager before making his debut in the Hariharan-directed film Mayookham (2005) in a lead role. Despite a slow start and a struggle for meaningful roles for several years, his career saw a significant turning point with V. K. Prakash's 2012 film Trivandrum Lodge, which established his reputation as a versatile character actor adept at nuanced comedy. Kurup became widely popular for his memorable portrayal of the timid yet blustering gang leader Arakkal Abu in the Aadu film franchise (2015 and 2017). His versatility shines through his performances, ranging from comedic roles in films like Happy Wedding and Janamaithri, to intense dramatic and antagonistic roles in films such as Driving Licence (as Johny Peringodan), Left Right Left, Bhoothakaalam, and Malikappuram. Saiju Kurup has also worked in Tamil cinema, notably in Thani Oruvan (2015) and Siddhu +2 (2010), and has recently ventured into digital platforms, starring in the web series Jai Mahendran (2024), and expanding his portfolio to include production with the 2024 film Bharathanatyam. He is married to Anupama, and the couple has two children.
