Daughter of actor and director Eiji Okuda and writer Kazu Ando, and sister of filmmaker Momoko Ando, Sakura decided to use her mother's maiden name for her professional career. She made her acting debut in her father's film Out of the Wind (2007) alongside her parents and sister.
