Sam Jay
Samaria Johnson (born January 13, 1982), professionally known as Sam Jay, is an accomplished American comedian, writer, actress, and producer. Jay began her stand-up comedy career in 2012 and has since gained significant recognition in the entertainment industry. She is widely known for her work as a writer on Saturday Night Live (2017–2020), her Netflix comedy special 3 in the Morning (2020), and as the co-creator and co-star of the HBO comedy series Pause with Sam Jay (2021–2022) and the Peacock comedy series Bust Down (2022), in which she also served as an executive producer. In 2023, she released her first HBO stand-up special, Sam Jay: Salute Me or Shoot Me, for which she also wrote and executive produced. Beyond television, Jay has appeared in the films You People (2023) and lent her voice to the animated movie Sneaks (2025). She has also been recognized with nominations for Primetime Emmy Awards for her writing on Saturday Night Live and an NAACP Image Award for writing her HBO special.
