Santiago Segura
Santiago Segura Silva is a Spanish filmmaker, actor, screenwriter, and producer, born on July 17, 1965, in Madrid, Spain. He studied Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid. He is one of Spain's most successful film figures, having won multiple Goya Awards, the country's national film honors. Segura first gained wide recognition as an actor for his leading turn as a heavy metal fan in the horror-comedy film 'The Day of the Beast' (1995), for which he won the Goya Award for Best New Actor. His breakthrough as a director came with his 1998 feature debut, the dark action-comedy 'Torrente, el brazo tonto de la ley' (Torrente, the Dumb Arm of the Law), which he wrote, directed, and starred in as the anti-hero José Luis Torrente. This film was a massive box-office hit and earned him the Goya Award for Best New Director. The Torrente series, which includes four sequels, became the highest-grossing Spanish film series of all time. Segura has also appeared in several international films, often collaborating with director Guillermo del Toro, including cameos in 'Blade II' (2002), 'Hellboy' (2004), 'Hellboy II: The Golden Army' (2008), and 'Pacific Rim' (2013). More recently, he has pivoted to directing and starring in lighter, family-focused comedies, such as the successful 'Padre no hay más que uno' (Father There Is Only One) trilogy, and the Christmas movie 'The Night My Dad Saved Christmas' (2023) where he plays Santa Claus, a role he is set to reprise in the 2025 sequel.
