Sargun Oshana

Sargun Oshana is an Iraqi-Danish theatre director, actor, and cultural advocate known for his compelling storytelling and commitment to diversity in the arts. Born on May 12, 1984, in Iraq, he fled to Denmark with his family as a child in 1992. He trained as an actor at the Skuespillerskolen at Aarhus Teater, graduating in 2012, and later honed his directing skills at the Danish National School of Performing Arts in Copenhagen, completing his studies in 2016. Oshana's career spans over 30 productions, including acclaimed works such as 4:48 Psychosis and denungewertherslidelser, both of which earned him the Reumert Award for Best Director in 2019 and 2020, respectively. He served as the artistic director of Blaagaard Teater (formerly Teater Grob) from 2021 to 2023, where he staged notable productions like Kannibalen by Johannes Lilleøre, which also featured at the Royal Danish Theatre. In 2023, he received the Bodil Koch Prize for promoting exceptional theatre that reflects societal diversity. Beyond his theatrical achievements, Oshana has appeared in television series such as Broen (2013) and Sex (2020), and has been involved in various cultural initiatives. He is currently based in Malmö, Sweden, where he continues to influence the Scandinavian theatre scene.
