Saswata Chatterjee (born 19 December 1970 in Kolkata, West Bengal) is a distinguished Indian actor celebrated for his work across Bengali cinema, television, and Bollywood. A versatile performer, he's best known for his iconic roles as the detective assistant “Topshe” in Sandip Ray’s Feluda series and the chilling contract killer “Bob Biswas” in the hit Hindi thriller Kahaani (2012) . Son of renowned actor Subhendu Chatterjee, Saswata initially aspired to become an actor during his college days, joining theatre groups like Charbak and Biswarupa, which laid the foundation for his career. His screen debut was in the mid-1990s, first in a Hindi serial based on Kaalpurush, then as Topshe in Bengali television—earning critical acclaim and popularity. In cinema, Saswata gained acclaim for roles in notable Bengali films like Meghe Dhaka Tara, Bhooter Bhabishyat, Proloy, and Abar Aranye, earning multiple awards such as the Zee Bangla Gaurav Samman, Anandalok Award, Tele Cine Award, and WBFJA Best Actor for Chobiyal.
