Scott Thompson
Scott Thompson is a highly acclaimed Canadian actor and comedian, best known as a member of the iconic sketch comedy troupe The Kids in the Hall. Born John Scott Thompson on June 12, 1959, in North Bay, Ontario, and raised in Brampton, he dropped his first name for stage simplicity. After being asked to leave York University for being "disruptive," he joined the comedy troupe "The Love Cats," where he met Mark McKinney, which ultimately led to him becoming a member of The Kids in the Hall in 1984.The Kids in the Hall's eponymous sketch comedy series aired from 1989 to 1995 on the CBC in Canada and on HBO and CBS in the United States, earning them a cult following. Thompson became particularly famous for his monologues as the "alpha queen" socialite Buddy Cole, a character he has continued to perform, and for his portrayals of various other memorable characters including Queen Elizabeth II, secretary Cathy, businessman Danny Husk, and the demented old man from the "Love and Sausages" sketch. Openly gay, Thompson often infused his comedy with LGBTQ+ themes, using his platform to challenge norms and entertain.Beyond The Kids in the Hall, Thompson has had a significant career in television and film. He was a regular on the revolutionary comedy series The Larry Sanders Show, playing Brian, Hank Kingsley's personal assistant, from 1996 to 1999. His film credits include "Brain Candy" (with The Kids in the Hall), "The Pacifier," and "Mickey Blue Eyes." He has also made numerous guest appearances on popular shows like "Hannibal" (as Jimmy Price), "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds," "The Handmaid's Tale," and "Murdoch Mysteries." Most recently, he lent his voice to the character of Felix in the animated horror-comedy film "Night of the Zoopocalypse" (2024).In addition to his acting, Thompson is also a stand-up comedian, a writer (co-authoring "Buddy Babylon: The Autobiography of Buddy Cole"), and was part of the queercore punk band Mouth Congress. His dynamic career spans various mediums and genres, cementing his place as a versatile and influential figure in comedy and entertainment.
