Sean Lau Ching-Wan (Chinese: 劉青雲), born February 16, 1964, in Hong Kong, is a highly acclaimed actor known for his versatility across film and television over a career spanning more than three decades. Lau trained at TVB's acting classes and debuted on television in 1984 in "Draw Out the Rainbow." He gained significant recognition with the TV drama "The Greed of Man" (1992). Transitioning successfully to film, Lau became celebrated for roles in movies such as "C'est la vie, mon chéri" (1993), "My Name Is Fame" (2006), "Mad Detective" (2007), and the "Overheard" film series (2009–2014). He is a recipient of multiple Hong Kong Film Awards for Best Actor, including for "My Name Is Fame," "Overheard 3," and the 2022 winner "Detective vs Sleuths." In 2025, he won a Hong Kong Film Award, a Hong Kong Film Critics Society Award, and an Asian Film Award for his performance in "Papa" (2024). Married to former Miss Hong Kong Amy Kwok since 1998, Lau is known for his down-to-earth personality and dedication to the Hong Kong film industry, remaining one of the region’s most respected and versatile actors.
