Selton Figueiredo Mello is a highly acclaimed Brazilian actor, filmmaker, and screenwriter, born on December 30, 1972, in Passos, Minas Gerais. Having begun his career as a child actor in Brazilian television soap operas in the 1980s, Mello built a versatile and celebrated career spanning over four decades. He achieved national popularity and critical recognition for his comedic roles as Chicó in the cultural classic A Dog's Will (O Auto da Compadecida, 2000) and Leléu in Lisbela and the Prisoner (2003), both of which earned him major awards, including the Cinema Brazil Grand Prize. Mello transitioned successfully into directing, writing, and producing, with his 2011 feature film The Clown (O Palhaço), which he co-directed, co-wrote, and starred in, receiving widespread critical praise and being selected as Brazil's submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
