Shazad Latif (born July 8, 1988) is a highly versatile British actor of Pakistani, English, and Scottish descent, celebrated for his ability to navigate complex, multi-layered characters across various genres. Raised in Tufnell Park, North London, he trained at the prestigious Bristol Old Vic Theatre School before making his professional breakthrough as tech-expert Tariq Masood in the BBC spy drama Spooks (2009–2011). He gained a cult following for his recurring comedic turn as the dry-witted studio engineer Clem Fandango in Toast of London, and showcased his dramatic range as Dr. Henry Jekyll in Penny Dreadful and the dual-identity Ash Tyler/Voq in Star Trek: Discovery. In 2024, he led the Amazon Prime adventure series Nautilus as the iconic Captain Nemo, further establishing himself as a leading man in major international productions. In the 2026 film adaptation of Wuthering Heights, Latif takes on the role of Edgar Linton, the refined and wealthy owner of Thrushcross Grange. His casting as Edgar—traditionally described as fair-haired and pale—represents filmmaker Emerald Fennell’s "colorblind" approach to the classic text, focusing on the character's internal conflict and social standing rather than physical tropes. In this iteration, Latif’s Edgar is portrayed as a logical, soft-spoken contrast to Heathcliff’s raw passion, though his marriage to Catherine (Margot Robbie) ultimately becomes a focal point of tragedy as he struggles to protect his family from Heathcliff's vengeful return.
