Shen Ao

Shen Ao (Chinese: 申奥; born September 11, 1986) is a Chinese filmmaker who graduated from the Directing Department of the Beijing Film Academy. He is known for directing social films, with his first feature film being The Beneficiary (2019), which focused on insurance fraud, was produced by Ning Hao, and won the Best First Feature award at the 33rd Golden Rooster Awards. Shen Ao's 2023 anti-fraud film, No More Bets, also produced by Ning Hao, was a massive commercial success, grossing a record 3.849 billion yuan. In 2025, his film Dead to Rights, a historical drama, was selected as China's submission for the 98th Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film. Shen Ao's films have garnered him multiple nominations and awards, including the Best Directorial Début award in 2020 and the Golden Rooster Award for Best Editing for No More Bets in 2024.
