Shih-Ching Tsou

Shih-Ching Tsou is a highly regarded Taiwanese-American filmmaker, producer, director, writer, and actress, originally born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, who is now based in New York City. She is best known for her long-standing and crucial creative partnership with director Sean Baker, which began after meeting at The New School. Tsou's career launched with the 2004 social-realist drama Take Out, which she co-directed, co-wrote, and co-produced with Baker. She continued as a core creative on his subsequent acclaimed films, serving as a Producer and Costume Designer on Tangerine (2015), which was famously shot on iPhones, and as a Producer on the Oscar-nominated The Florida Project (2017) and Red Rocket (2021). She made her solo feature directorial debut with the 2025 Taiwanese drama, Left-Handed Girl, a deeply personal story about a family in a Taipei night market that was also shot on iPhones. Tsou served as the Director, Writer, Producer, and Editor for the film, which premiered at Cannes Critics' Week and was selected as Taiwan's official submission for the Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards. She also serves as a programmer for the Slamdance Film Festival.
