Shiri Freda Appleby (born December 7, 1978, in Los Angeles, California) is an accomplished American actress, director, and producer. She began acting at just four years old, appearing in commercials before landing her breakout role as Liz Parker on the sci‑fi TV series Roswell (1999–2002) . Appleby went on to star in Life Unexpected as a Seattle DJ grappling with unexpected motherhood, and garnered widespread acclaim portraying Rachel Goldberg—the hard‑edged producer on Lifetime’s critically‑lauded drama UnREAL (2015–2018). Beyond acting, Appleby has stepped behind the camera, directing multiple episodes of UnREAL as well as episodes for shows such as Roswell, New Mexico, Blackish, New Amsterdam, Minx, Young Sheldon, and UnPrisoned. Raised in a Jewish household with Moroccan-Israeli Sephardic and Ashkenazi heritage, she studied English at USC before earning her psychology degree while working on Life Unexpected.Married to chef Jon Shook since 2013, the couple has two children.
