Shota Sometani
Shota Sometani is an acclaimed Japanese actor, born on September 3, 1992, in Tokyo, who began his career as a child actor in 2001 and is recognized as one of his generation's most versatile performers. His career breakthrough came in 2011 with the film Himizu, for which he won the Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best New Young Actor at the 68th Venice International Film Festival. He is well-known for starring as Shinichi Izumi in the live-action Parasyte films (2014-2015) and for his international role as the monk Kukai in Legend of the Demon Cat (2018). Sometani is also a frequent voice collaborator with director Mamoru Hosoda, having roles in films like Wolf Children (2012), The Boy and the Beast (2015), Belle (2021), and the upcoming Scarlet (2025), where he voices Guildenstern. In television, he played Oda Nobunaga in the Taiga drama Awaiting Kirin (2020) and had a recent role in the Netflix series Sanctuary (2023). He is married to actress Rinko Kikuchi.
