Son Ye-jin, born Son Eon-jin on January 11, 1982, in Daegu, South Korea, is one of the most celebrated and highly-awarded actresses in the South Korean entertainment industry. She rose to fame in the early 2000s through her lead roles in romantic melodramas and films such as The Classic (2003), Summer Scent (2003), and the commercially successful A Moment to Remember (2004), roles that earned her the affectionate nickname "Nation's First Love." Over the years, she successfully diversified her roles, moving beyond melodrama to star in critically acclaimed and commercially successful projects across diverse genres, including the dark mystery The Truth Beneath (2016), the historical film The Last Princess (2016)—for which she won a Best Actress Baeksang Arts Award—and the action-comedy The Pirates (2014).Her global recognition skyrocketed with her starring roles in the highly popular television series Something in the Rain (2018) and the global phenomenon Crash Landing on You (2019-2020), cementing her status as a top Hallyu (Korean Wave) star. In her personal life, Son Ye-jin married her Crash Landing on You co-star, actor Hyun Bin (Kim Tae-pyung), in a much-publicized ceremony in March 2022, and the couple welcomed their first son in November 2022. Following a hiatus for marriage and motherhood, she made her highly anticipated return to the big screen in 2025 with the Park Chan-wook film No Other Choice, where she stars as Mi-ri. Her performance in the film earned her the Best Actress award at the prestigious 46th Blue Dragon Film Awards in November 2025. This historic win, shared with her husband Hyun Bin who won Best Actor for his film Harbin, made them the first married couple to sweep the top acting prizes at the ceremony in the same year.
