Sonoya Mizuno is a British-Japanese actress, model, and former ballet dancer, born on July 1, 1986, in Tokyo, Japan, and raised in Somerset, England. She trained professionally as a ballet dancer, attending the Royal Ballet School, and danced with various companies in Germany, Scotland, and with the English National Ballet.Mizuno transitioned from a successful dance career into acting, making her film debut in Alex Garland's critically acclaimed science fiction thriller Ex Machina (2014) as the android Kyoko. This role marked the beginning of her frequent collaborations with director Alex Garland, also appearing in Annihilation (2018) and the FX miniseries Devs (2020), where she played the lead role of Lily Chan.Her diverse filmography also includes memorable roles in musical films like La La Land (2016) and Beauty and the Beast (2017), and she gained wider recognition for her part as Araminta Lee in the hit romantic comedy Crazy Rich Asians (2018). On television, she is well-known for her role as Dr. Azumi Fujita in the Netflix series Maniac (2018) and as Mysaria in the popular HBO series House of the Dragon (2022–present).
