Sophia Anne Caruso is an American actress, singer, and dancer best known for her celebrated work on the Broadway stage and her leading role in a major Netflix film. Born on July 11, 2001, in Spokane, Washington, she began her professional career at age nine, playing Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker. Caruso quickly established herself in the theater world, earning a Lucille Lortel Award nomination for her role as Iris in the Off-Broadway play The Nether (2015) and a subsequent Lucille Lortel and Outer Critics Circle nomination for originating the role of "Girl" in David Bowie and Enda Walsh's musical Lazarus (2015-2017), which she later reprised in London. She made her Broadway debut in the 2016 revival of Blackbird.Caruso achieved her greatest stage fame for originating the role of Lydia Deetz in the Broadway musical Beetlejuice, for which she won a Theatre World Award in 2019. She left the show in early 2020 to pursue film and television work. On screen, she is widely recognized for starring as Sophie in the 2022 Netflix fantasy film The School for Good and Evil, an adaptation of the book series by Soman Chainani.
