Stefania LaVie Owen
Stefania LaVie Owen is a highly regarded New Zealand-American actress whose career spans major international film and television productions. Born on December 15, 1997, in Miami, Florida, to a Cuban-American mother and a New Zealander father, she moved to New Zealand at age four and was raised in the coastal village of Pauatahanui. Her professional acting journey began at just 12 years old when she was cast by Sir Peter Jackson in the 2009 supernatural drama The Lovely Bones. Following this debut, she gained significant recognition in the United States for her role as the "wise-beyond-her-years" narrator Puddle Kadubic in the comedy series Running Wilde and as Dorrit Bradshaw, the rebellious younger sister, in the Sex and the City prequel series The Carrie Diaries (2013–2014). In 2015, Owen starred as Beth Engel in the holiday horror-comedy Krampus, where her performance as the sharp-witted teenage daughter contributed to the film’s status as a modern cult classic. She has since expanded into more mature and complex roles, including Nicole Chance in the Hulu psychological thriller Chance alongside Hugh Laurie, and the lead role of Melanie in the critically acclaimed mental health drama Paper Spiders (2020). Most recently, she became a global standout for her portrayal of Bear (Rebecca Walker), the fierce leader of the Animal Army, in the hit Netflix fantasy series Sweet Tooth (2021–2024). Known for her "earthy intelligence" and emotional depth, Owen often splits her time between New York City and Wellington while remaining a vocal advocate for mental health and a mindful approach to social media.
