Stefany Mathias is a Canadian actress, director, and writer, born on March 12, 1972, in North Vancouver, British Columbia. She is the only daughter of the late Squamish Nation hereditary Chief Joe Mathias and Janice Antoine and now carries the title of Hereditary Chief herself. Her love for the arts was cultivated from a young age, leading her to graduate from the University of British Columbia's theatre program.Mathias began her acting career in theatre before being cast by Chris Haddock in the acclaimed TV series "DaVinci's Inquest," where she had a recurring role. Her television credits also include "Da Vinci City Hall," "The Collector," "Longmire," "Blood & Oil," "Allegiance," and a notable role in the recent drama series "Jason." In film, she is recognized for her appearances in "Pathfinder" (2007), "Only on Mondays" (2013), "Here We Are" (2013), and most prominently as Sumu (Chief Wife) in the 2022 "Predator" prequel, "Prey."Beyond acting, Stefany Mathias is also a talented director and writer. She co-wrote and co-directed one short film, and wrote and directed others, including "Gloriana." She also attended the Vancouver Film School for film production and directing and has a feature film in development as a writer. Mathias is a passionate advocate for accurate Indigenous representation in film and television, often speaking about the need for more diverse and authentic stories.
