Stelio Savante is a South African-born American actor, producer, and writer with a career spanning over three decades and more than 140 film, television, and video game credits. Born on April 24, 1970, in Cape Town, South Africa, and of diverse European descent, he initially moved to the United States on an international tennis scholarship before pivoting to an acclaimed career in acting, having studied at prestigious institutions like the Actors Studio and Michael Howard Studios in New York. Savante is a highly respected character actor known for his versatility in both mainstream and independent cinema. In 2007, he made history by becoming the first male South African-born Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award nominee for his recurring role as Steve on the popular series Ugly Betty. His notable screen credits include playing Joe Masseria in AMC's The Making of the Mob: New York, a small role in the Oscar-winning film A Beautiful Mind (2001), a Portuguese mayor in the drama Running for Grace opposite Matt Dillon, and a South African/Israeli journalist and Mossad agent in the political thriller Infidel. More recently, he is widely recognized for his recurring role as Moses in the faith-based series The Chosen and the voice of Ajax in the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and Mobile video games. Savante is also an active producer on multiple independent films, and he is slated to appear in the upcoming 2025 film, Sarah's Oil.
