Stellan Skarsgård, born on June 13, 1951, in Gothenburg, Sweden, is a highly acclaimed and prolific actor with a career spanning over five decades in film, television, and theatre. He first gained recognition as a teen star in the Swedish TV series "Bombi Bitt och jag" (1968). From 1972 to 1988, he was a prominent member of The Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm, performing in numerous plays. Skarsgård's international breakthrough came with Lars von Trier's "Breaking the Waves" (1996), which opened doors to Hollywood. He has since appeared in a vast array of high-profile American films, including "Good Will Hunting" (1997), Steven Spielberg's "Amistad" (1997), "Ronin" (1998), and "Deep Blue Sea" (1999). He is also known for his roles as Bootstrap Bill Turner in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise and Dr. Erik Selvig in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, including "Thor" (2011) and "The Avengers" (2012). More recently, he has garnered critical acclaim for his portrayal of Boris Shcherbina in the HBO miniseries "Chernobyl" (2019), for which he won a Golden Globe Award, and as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen in Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" (2021) and "Dune: Part Two" (2024). Skarsgård continues to be active, with the upcoming film "Sentimental Value" (2025) where he stars as Gustav Borg. He has been honored with numerous awards throughout his career, including a Silver Berlin Bear for "The Simple-Minded Murderer" (1982) and multiple Guldbagge Awards in Sweden.
