Steve Zahn is an American actor born on November 13, 1967, in Marshall, Minnesota. He began his professional acting career in 1991 with a production of Biloxi Blues and later co-founded the Malaparte theater company with Ethan Hawke and Robert Sean Leonard. Zahn's breakout film role came in 1994 with Reality Bites, and he went on to star in notable films such as That Thing You Do! (1996), You've Got Mail (1998), and Out of Sight (1998). He earned an Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male for his performance in Happy, Texas (1999). Zahn's filmography includes diverse roles in Joy Ride (2001), Rescue Dawn (2006), Dallas Buyers Club (2013), and War for the Planet of the Apes (2017). On television, he portrayed Davis McAlary in HBO's Treme (2010–2013) and received an Emmy nomination for his role as Mark Mossbacher in The White Lotus (2021). Zahn is married to Robyn Peterman, and they have two children. The family resides on a horse farm in Kentucky, where Zahn enjoys gardening and farming. In 2025, Zahn starred in and co-wrote the comedy-drama She Dances, which premiered at the Tribeca Festival.
